Unruly Child

The much talked and raved about band, UNRULY CHILD was formed in the early 90's by singer Mark Free (Signal, King Kobra), guitar player Bruce Gowdy (Stone Fury, World Trade, Glenn Hughes), keyboard player Guy Allison (Lodgic, World Trade, Air Supply) and drummer Jay Schellen (Hurricane). They worked out some might impressive demos in Bruce Gowdy's studio and the material generated in a huge interest from the major labels and the band was shortly signed to Interscope and bass player Larry Antonino joined the band.

The bands debut album released in 1992 and produced by Beau Hill, received amazing respons from the world's leading hardrock press, media and magazines, and is by many rated as one of the finest hardrock releases released in the 90's.

The luck was however not on UNRULY CHILD's side as at the same time as the UNRULY CHILD album was released, their label Interscope went to some intern problems and the people responsible for bringing the band to the label was fired.

And down to music business politics was also UNRULY CHILD (+ a bunch of other acts) dropped due to this power play.

Bruce Gowdy says: "I think the album has been out for some 2 weeks when the news was brought to us that we were dropped."

The band however continued but was facing problems with their music climate changing and the record labels were only interesting in finding the next big thing from Seattle.

Bruce says: "At this time were more or less cursed being known as a more classic melodic rock band and also being known for being dropped".

So the band decided to transform into a little heavier and darker direction and changing the name to TWELVE POUND SLEDGE, as always with this bunch of talented musicians did they come up with outstanding material and started to draw attention from the majors again. And the band did several showcases and had major interest from several big lables.

Then the next bomb hit all due to intern problems in the band and due to personal reasons and as for certain changes in approach did the band part ways with singer Mark Free (later to become Marcie Free which of cause is another story).

The other band members decided to put the band on hold until finding the perfect replacement.

"Its not easy replacing a singer like Free " says Bruce Gowdy and continues: "And we decided that we wanted to feel 100% sure as for the replacement before getting the band back in action again."

So after some years with the various band members dealing and working with many other projects, sessions and bands, enter singer Kelly Hansen, the former singer of the band HURRICANE and also like Free a well used session singer in L.A.

"We all knew Kelly for a long time and Jay used to play with him in HURRICANE of cause" says Bruce.

"After working with Kelly on some various sessions it struck me that he would be the perfect singer to get UNRULY CHILD happening again, He had the looks, a great attitude and also of cause the most important matter the voice"

Kelly Hansen was asked if he would be interested in join the reborn UNRULY CHILD and was delighted about the possibility and was soon set as the new singer for the band.

'Waiting For The Sun' the title for the bands latest studio album is proof that the band still is in the very forefront of the melodic rock scene today.

Bruce Gowdy produced the album and has together with the other band members created a amazing blend of music and the band is certinly a innovator to bring the genre into the new millenium.

The band is today a three piece with Bruce Gowdy, Kelly Hansen and Jay Schellan. But the other UNRULY's is guesting on the new album and is still part of the UNRULY CHILD collective.

UNRULY CHILD is back and this time do they plan to stick around and defenetive with more albums to follow.
